Here’s a few tips on how to make a colourful entrance to the New Year. There is a psychological effect on you and on others when you wear certain colours. Use this to your advantage!
Give yourself a dose of happiness with Yellow
Yellow is often associated with joy, happiness, and energy. It’s the colour of sunshine and is often associated with summer – so perfect to brighten a grey winters day.
This super soft cashmere jumper from M&S is like wearing a happy hug! It’s cut to a flattering slim fit which means winter warmth without adding too much bulk.
And for a pop of colour, a scarf is always a great solution (and perfect at this time of year) – like this one from White Stuff.
Want more energy – wear red
Red has a number of psychological effects – and the common link between these effects is energy. Red can stimulate the senses and even increase the heart rate.
This red jumper from Roman will give you the red colour ‘hit’ near your face, whilst the dark bungandy will make your hips look slimmer (due to the darker colour). Therefore it’s a great option of you are pear / triangle shaped (wider on the hips than shoulders).
Im a bit partial to a leather glove myself – as they make me feel a little dressy even in my winter coat. Gloves are a fun way to add colour to your outdoor outfit. Plus they are fleece lined so will keep you toasty warm.
Get creative with orange
Orange is often associated with creativity and inspiration, and can stimulate mental activity. It can encourage innovative thinking and experimentation.
If you find orange in a large colour block too much, then incorporate it in a pattern like this jumper from Evans.
Or consider a bag which is a great option to add a sprinkle of creativity to your outfit. Like this one from Longchamp which is also a good size to carry everything you need.
Feel more rested with earthy browns
It will be no surpirse that browns can evoke feelings of comfort, security, and resilience.
A shacket is a great layering piece to add warmth in the winter months, and this one from M&S has a lovely soft and luxurious feel to it.
If you would prefer a hint of brown to your outfit, then this zipped jumper from Mango is a great option. Plus the zip neckline gives you the option of full warmth zipped up, or a v neckline if that is more flattering on you (it is the most popular neckline for a reason!)
Calm the mind with green
Green can have a calming effect on the nervous system, and can help relieve stress and anxiety.
This green roll neck jumper is perfect if you have a straighter body shape and would benefit from adding details to your hips (to create the illusion of more shape) due to the side slits
This green beanie hat is a great option if greens can overpower your own colouring – as the jade green is a much gentler green to wear for many of us
