In the last blog I gave advice how to step into the Autumn trends – but now we are fully into Autumn Winter its time to fully emabrace the latest looks of this season!
There are two materials and two patterns trending – so let me hlep you navigate them to best suit you perosnally.
Lets start with materials – we have the softness and the fluidity of satin vs the structure and weight of leather. Generally speaking, the softer fabrics are better on curvier bodies and stiffer fabrics better on straighter body lines. But the main thing to consider when wearing either fabric is that the eye will be draw to that area, so wear it on the part of your body that you want to show off or are most comfortable with
Satin
Satin – for a confident look using satin go head to toe like with this elegant jumpsuit from French Connection, with its sutble floral print
.Whilst the jumpsuit is stunning, wearing satin doesn’t have to a material you save for going out. I love nothing more than a satin shirt teamed with jeans – like this light blue shirt from Monsoon. They have teamed it with silver pointed shoes, but for a more causal look you can add trainers or chunky boots.
Leather
Leather – is great for creating shape to straighter body shapes, as the fabric holds it own shape rather than following that of the body.
Biker jackets are a timeless style which you will get your wear out of year after year. This one from Fat Face is also lined and has quilted detail which gives it a lovely wintery feel. Plus the soft teal colour is a welcome break from the darkness that can dominate autumn winter clothing.
Wide leg trousers are a key trouser shape for AW’24, and these are in a lovley dark chocolate shade. Here they are teamed with a leopard pointed shoe – which is another trend I mnetioned in the last article, as a key accessory trend for now – but they would also work with trainers as an daytime look.
Checks
Next up this season offers you a choice of patterns to play with. Checks work best on straight body lines, as the straight lines oif the pattern mirror the body. Whereas prints like leopard tend to have a curve to the pattern and hence are great on curvy body shapes. As with the advice on materials, use these eye catching patterns to draw attention to the areas of your body that you wish to show off.
Checks – are a classic pattern, and never go out of style. However this season to ensure thjat your checks look up to date then team this pattern with other key AW styles like these wide leg trousers from Phase Eight. These would be great if you have an athletic build, ie a straight shoulder line with narrower hips as the checks on the bottom half will give the illusion of an hour glass figure with a nipped in waist.
Another bold option is this coat from White Stuff – plus an additional benefit is it comes in burgandy which is a key colour for this season.
Or you could just add a checked scarf in your best shades to a plain coat for an understated nod to the check trend.
Animal Print
Animal print – and its all about the leopard this season! There is a lot of it in the shops right now, which means that lots of people will be wearing it. So how about following the trend but using different shades than the unsual browns and beiges – like this grey jacket from Hush. I love the zip front which adds a contemporay and relaxed edge to it.
And do remeber you can just add a touch of leopard print to your outfit to elevate it and give a nod to the latets trend – you can do this easily by adding a belt like this one from Mango.
I always advise my clients to look through their own wardrobes first before buying new – as you can often find a piece which you may not have worn for a while, but tick one of the latest trends 🙂
