I love September – its the start of the changing of the seasons, the mornings are crisper, and importantly for me and my work – it’s new season, and the latest trends are hitting our shops!

I always find that transitioning into a new season is nice when its done gently – so in this blog Im going to start with how to add a few items to your current wardrobe to give a nod to the new season.  There’s been lots of seasonal style advice about Burgandy as a colour, so instead of focusing on that , I thought that I would concentrate on accessories – as they are a great way to start the move to a new season, and for Autumn / Winter’24 there are some fab accessories trends coming through.

Pointed Shoes

Pointed shoes – specifically the pointed court shoe.  These shoes have for a while taken a back seat to comfier options, but they are all over the AW’24 catwalks.  If you are petite or have shorter legs then this is a trend for you to get on board with – as the point of the shoe will give the illusion of an elognated leg and thus make you look taller (and thereffore also slimmer).  The younger generations may team a court shoe with an ankle sock, whilst simply wearing a court shoe with jeans is a more accessoible look for most of us.

When it comes to court shoes the classic nude court cannot be beaten, like these from LK Bennett

Footwear is a great option to introduce a bit of personality into our outfits too.  Leopard print is making a huge come back for AW’24, so a leopard print court shoe is a double win for the AW’24 trends, like these Sam Edelman slingbacks

Bianka Leather Leopard Pointed Slingback Courts, Sam Edelman, £175

If you prefer flats then they are a lots of choice for flat point-toe pumps like these from H&M

Pointed slingbacks, H&M, £21.99

Burgandy Bags

Burgandy Bags – whilst many might consider burgandy as a full on colour, it can actually act as a great neutral.  Just team it with your best shades to really make the most of this shade.

Those who have a DEEP or SOFT colouring, then burgandy is a great colour option for you – so go for it!  Whilst others will need to wear other colours with burgandy in order to make it work for you.  For example LIGHTS and CLEARS – wear with lighter shades to lighten it up and add contrsast.  Whilst Warms and COOLS – you will need to team it with shades that eoither warm up (eg mustaard or khaki) or cool down (a nice blue) burgandy

Colour is one elemenet to consider when wearing your bag, but also how and where you wear your bag can also help balance out your body shape – so if you are pear shaped, then avoijd a cross body bag that lands on your hips, and instead opt for an over the shoulder bag, like this one from Monsoon

Ella Tote Bag, Monsoon, £59

Whilst those of you which wold benefit from some empahiss on the hips, like inverted triangles and rectangle body shapes, then a bag which lands on your hips is a great accessory to add like this bag from White Stuff

Mini Leather Ferm Crossbody bag, White Stuff, £45

Belts

Belts – were all over the catwalks for AW’24.  They can be a small accessory but can make and outfit, as they can also make (or break!) making the most of your body shape.

There were all kinds of belts on the catwalks, but the ones that really stood out were the metalic ones.  These can be a great addition to elevate a comfy knit, and add some shape.  When teaming a belt with knits, I personally find a stretchy belt a wardrobe staple (plus they are comfier as they move with you), like this gold belt from Next

Skinny Stretch Chain Belt, Next, £14

Whether you are best to wear gold or silver belts depends on your undertone – so gold for those with a warm undertone and silver for those with a cool undertone. But many of us are soemwhere in the middle when it comes to our skins undertone, which is why I love this belt from White Stuff, which is decribed as metalic pewter – which is a great colour for those who find gold or silver too much of a standout shade.
